Morgan Callan Rogers based her books, Red Ruby Heart in a Cold Blue Sea and Written on My Heart,
on the dignity, grace, humor, and practical magic of her father's
Yankee relatives. "I wanted to honor them. Unfortunately, I didn't know
many of my father's Maine relatives very well as I was growing up, and
they all passed away before I could. That saddened me, so I wanted to
get to know them through the characters I created in my work.
Fortunately, my characters understood what I was trying to do, and they
brought out the Maine in themselves, beautifully." Morgan lives in West
Bath, with her South Dakota mining town cat, Tula Mae.
