The 2021 application process is closed. All applications submitted in 2020 were considered by the Books in Boothbay Committee for 2021, and the committee is currently in the process of contacting authors. A new application for 2022 will be available at the end of this year, so be sure to check back!
A few things about Books in Boothbay make it unique, besides the fact that it’s the largest and longest-running book fair in the state of Maine! Books in Boothbay is a unique, annual fundraising event for the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library and the host venue Boothbay Railway Village Museum. Two-thirds of all the profits from book sales are donated to these two organizations. Your participation as an author contributes directly to sustaining two Boothbay-region nonprofits dedicated to delivering educational services in Midcoast Maine.
Exhibiting Authors: You have the opportunity to meet your fans and sell dozens of books without lugging them in and out or stressing about a cash box or that Square thingy, thanks to our partners at Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shops which will do all of the heavy lifting. All you have to do is show up, sign books, and mingle with fans and peers. Of course, we invite you to stay after for the Authors Lunch generously provided by Mine Oyster and Boathouse Bistro.
Book Sales: BIB partners with Sherman's Maine Coast Book Shops to bring in all the titles you would like to have available for sale. You’ll provide that list during the application process. Authors who are invited to exhibit will have their ISBN information passed on to Sherman’s, which does all the heavy lifting (literally). Sherman's staff orders and stocks all of the books sold at event and handles all of the cash and credit transactions the day of the event. Authors receive their standard retail cut of any books sold.
Set up: Exhibiting authors may begin arriving to set up promotional materials around 8:00 AM. Typically one 6-foot table is shared by two exhibiting authors, so keep that in mind when preparing your promotional materials and display.
Books in Boothbay consistently attracts hundreds of book lovers and shoppers. Exhibiting authors have the opportunity to sell dozens of books during this single event!
