The Thistle Inn – A Wee Bit of Scotland in Maine released in June 2020 is Hilary Bartlett's non-fiction novel inspired by her time at Boothbay Harbor’s Thistle Inn.
Hilary grew up in Liverpool, England and received a doctorate from University College London. She came to Boothbay Harbor in 1975 on a fellowship to determine a predictive index for toxic red tides. Her intention was to return to London, but Maine's rocky coastline bewitched Hilary and she stayed. She took a full-time research position at Bigelow Lab and lived opposite the Thistle Inn.
Hilary made life-long friends at the back corner table in the Thistle's pub. Her new book recalls those glory days and is available for purchase and the author’s signature at Books in Boothbay, September 11, 2021. On-site book sales benefit the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library and the Boothbay Harbor Railway Village.
